Have you ever stopped to ask yourself some fundamental questions about your life? Questions like:
Am I living my truth?
Living your truth means aligning your actions, decisions, and values with your authentic self. When you’re not living authentically, you may feel disconnected, unfulfilled, or even resentful. This question helps identify areas where external expectations or fears are pulling you away from what truly matters.
If you think you’re not living your truth, you might notice:
Feeling like an imposter – You act differently around certain people to fit their expectations, but it feels exhausting or inauthentic.
A lack of fulfillment – You’ve achieved milestones but feel empty or disconnected because they don’t align with what truly matters to you.
Suppressed desires – You avoid pursuing your passions because you fear judgment or failure.
Overcommitment to others – You prioritise other people’s needs or opinions over your own, leaving little room for self-care or personal growth.
Constant second-guessing – You question your choices because they’re driven by external validation rather than inner conviction.
Do my thoughts serve me?
Thoughts are the foundation of your mindset. Negative or limiting beliefs can create mental barriers, while empowering thoughts open doors to growth and possibility. This question encourages you to reflect on whether your thoughts are helping you grow or holding you back.

Catastrophic thinking – You immediately imagine the worst-case scenario in unfamiliar or challenging situations.
Perfectionism – You constantly strive to do things perfectly, which leads to procrastination or burnout.
Self-doubt loops – You replay past mistakes in your head, convincing yourself that you’re not capable of success.
Comparison traps – You compare yourself to others and feel inadequate, even if your accomplishments are meaningful.
Defeatist mindset – You give up before trying because you believe failure is inevitable.
Do I feel the confidence and joy I want at this stage of my life?
Confidence and joy are markers of a life well-aligned with your values and purpose. If you’re not experiencing these feelings, it could indicate unresolved fears, a misaligned path, or a need for self-awareness and growth.
If you don’t feel the confidence or joy you want, you might notice:
Living in survival mode – You focus on just getting through the day rather than pursuing what excites or inspires you.
Avoiding new challenges – You shy away from opportunities because you don’t believe you can handle them.
Joyless busyness – You stay busy to avoid confronting feelings of dissatisfaction or restlessness.
People-pleasing tendencies – You derive your self-worth from making others happy, leaving little room for your own happiness.
Feeling stuck – You sense that you’ve outgrown your current situation but aren’t sure how to move forward.

Are My Negative Thoughts and Fears Standing in My Way?
This question is vital because negative thoughts and fears are often silent saboteurs that influence decisions, actions, and ultimately, the trajectory of our lives. Identifying whether these mental patterns are interfering allows you to confront them head-on, creating space for growth, clarity, and intentionality.
If negative thoughts or fears are holding you back, you might notice:
Fear of judgment – You avoid expressing your ideas or opinions because you worry about criticism or rejection.
Fear of failure – You hesitate to start new projects or take risks, believing you’ll fall short.
Fear of success – You subconsciously avoid growth because you fear the responsibilities or expectations that come with it.
Overthinking everything – You analyze every decision excessively, leading to indecision or inaction.
Feeling unworthy – You believe you don’t deserve success or happiness, so you sabotage your own efforts.
Are You Living Your Truth?
When you’re not living your truth, it often means that your thoughts and fears are steering the ship. Courageous
Loving
Joyous
Now ask yourself:
Are you living congruently with those words?
If you describe yourself as courageous, are you really taking bold steps in your life?
If you say you’re loving, are you showing up with kindness and compassion, even when it’s hard?
If you claim to be joyous, are you allowing yourself to celebrate life, or are you bogged down by fear and negativity?
This exercise isn’t about perfection; it’s about aligning your actions with your values. When you live congruently with your ideal self, you naturally dismantle fears and negative thoughts that no longer serve you.
Envisioning Your Future Self
The most exciting aspect of psychology is its power to shape your future. Coaching often involves helping clients envision their future ideals, values, and lives—and then reverse-engineering the steps to get there.
This vision isn’t just about external achievements; it’s about aligning your thoughts, behaviours, and emotions with the person you aspire to become. Ask yourself:
Who is the future version of me?
What values does that person live by?
How can I start thinking, feeling, and acting in alignment with that vision today?
Having a clear direction allows you to aim your psychology toward purpose and growth. It gives you the clarity and momentum to face fears head-on, knowing they are simply stepping stones to a better life.
If you’re not envisioning or working toward your future self, you might notice:
A vague sense of dissatisfaction – You feel restless or unfulfilled but can’t pinpoint why.
Stuck in the past – You focus on what’s already happened rather than what’s possible moving forward.
A lack of purpose – You feel directionless because you haven’t clarified your goals or values.
Resistance to change – You avoid thinking about the future because it feels overwhelming or uncertain.
Short-term thinking – You prioritize immediate gratification over long-term growth and fulfilment.

Your thoughts are the foundation of your life. When you take control of them—by examining whether they serve you, aligning them with your truth, and aiming them toward a meaningful future—you unlock the ability to move beyond fear and step into your highest potential.
Living your truth isn’t about being fearless; it’s about feeling the fear and choosing to live authentically anyway. With the right mindset, self-awareness, and a commitment to growth, you can overcome the thoughts and fears that hold you back and create a life filled with confidence, joy, and purpose.
