Coaching Intelligence™ News
We are excited to be beginning the following programs in Term Two:
Our Coaching Intelligence Fusion Lab Program to St Peters School Cambridge, St Kentigern, St Margaret’s College, University Kids Wellington and Rosmini College.
Our leadership arm of the Coaching Intelligence methodology; Leadership Conversations Program to Carmel College and St Paul’s Collegiate Hamilton.
Our ongoing partnership and continued support of transformational coaching conversations at Christs College and Rangiruru Girls School.
These schools are committed to having a greater reach for coaching by bringing the Coaching Intelligence™ Methodology into their schools rather than the well-known one-off two-day training. Instead, we look to create sustainability in the coaching model to see the transformation of coaching cultures.

Use these questions to support teachers to unpack the learning of their students

What does the data tell you about the learners' learning?
What successful actions do you take to enable learning in your classroom?
Paint me a picture of the learning that is happening in your classroom.
Unpack for me how the learners like to learn
What kinds of learning strategies and structures have you tried that have been successful? - Why were they successful?

The Empathy Map
In the early stages of a coaching conversation, getting as many ideas out into the open as possible is essential. An empathy map is a great supporting resource to support thinking about learning.
Use the sections of the empathy map to pose your questions in the coaching conversation and see what bubbles to the surface. The whole idea of a coaching conversation is to surface the invisibles so the coachee can choose what to explore in more detail.
The empathy map is a resource to support the context part of the coaching intelligence roadmap for a coaching conversation.
At Southwell School I was working with the specialist team. Working in groups of three I was walked teachers through a reflective experience that incorporates the process of gaining insight through the use of the Coaching Intelligence TM Methodology.
I used the empathy map to support the coaching conversation as we explored the challeges and the silver linings of Term One 2022.

An Idea Unpacked - Practising Presence
Practising Presence
Attention and presence are directly correlated. Your attention determines what you perceive, learn and remember and how you interact with others, amongst other things. Attention can only be used in the moment, here and now and is partial to distraction.
We become distracted by all sorts of things. Distractions are the things that prevent us from being fully present in conversations, yet it is the one thing you can change that will transform your conversations.
Presence is a coaching intelligence core competency, and it begins with you and only you.

We often assume that what we experience within a conversation - what we hear, think and see - is the same experience for all participants. It is this assumption that is the primary cause of misunderstanding. Each person enters the conversation from their own perspective and unique worldview. The reason why so many of our conversations miss the mark is that we assume that everyone is "on the same page".
This assumption can lead us to -
- Not check in with each other's understanding
- Not attempt to create a shared understanding
- Default to conversations where one person dominates and tells, sells and yells.
- Leave people feeling like they have not been heard.
-
A Real Story About The Importance of Presence.
Being fully present in a conversation is not always easy. The key to presence is that presence starts with you. Therefore, you need to be prepared to be present yourself before you can be present with another person in conversation.
Many things cause us to pull away from being present, which is centred around emotion. Often, the desire to step away from hard things is almost impossible to ignore. I experienced precisely this last week with my daughter.
-
From a very early age, I was told that “small children were to be seen and not heard”. I was a product of a mixed marriage and my step-siblings were at least 8 years older than me. Anything I might have had to say or contribute was irrelevant in comparison to what anyone else might have to say. There was simply no room for my opinions, thoughts or feelings on any given topic, so I kept quiet.
If I ever did speak up, what I said was ignored, or counteracted. If I contributed to a family conversation, I was made to feel that my thoughts were irrelevant in comparison to what anyone else contributed.
